Almost done with the key parts of the migration. I moved over comments tonite. email addresses other than mine are false. Still need to setup a little game reminder doodad so I show up to soccer, figure out what to do with the few not-me posts from the legacy site. That’s all I feel like I need to do…but there’ll be some looksy/feelsy changes of a minor sort coming along.

I came very close to being one of the teachers suffering through the current abuses of our state. Earned my MAT in 1999 from one of the most bizarro places I’ve ever spent a year, George Fox University. I had little idea of wtf I was getting into, recently out of one of Portland’s small liberal arts colleges. Oddly enough, at that time I decided that teachers here (don’t get me wrong, they’re treated bad everywhere to my knowledge) are treated too badly, and decided to geek out instead.

I live across the street from Meek elementary on NE Albert, one of Portland’s closing elementary schools. It always seemed like a cool place, with gardens in the front, little crossing guards in orange, and colorful signs all around the brick building (sadly, they all plead save our school now). So this make me somewhat sad. Now, I am puzzled though about something. In the face of closure, someone has decided to tear about the sidewalks and nearby lawns.

Hello! I’ve been thinking about this site in blogland, and decided to move more towards a blogging content solution than a community solution as I’d been previously running (postnuke). Basically, I found that certain features were not particularly utilized, so I slowly pared down the site. I found that I was left with a solution far larger than what I needed, and theming it was a severe pain. So, I’ve switched (back) to b2 which is a pretty nice little php/mysql-based blogging solution, far as I can tell.

SETI@Home has announced a milestone in their distributed computing experiment: they are going to use the data that they’ve gathered together. They are going to look at the spots in the sky that people have helped to identify as likely alien hotbeds. Very cool, and something of a breakthrough. Distributed computing is a piece of the future that has barely been scratched. Spamming is not the only way to make money with your computer’s idle time.

In an astounding statement of their distate towards all things UnAmerican and therefore anti-Freedom, an elite school has updated their menu, renaming French Fries and French Toast to Freedom such-n-such. Also, the district office has renamed Russian Roulette to Reagan Roulette, and is now referring to Mexico as New Texas. The sad part is is that part of that is true! Of course, the school is the House of Representatives. This tactic is unacceptable.

Oh, I love my Mirror pond. This pale ale came my way some several to many years ago, and has remained at the top of the short list ever since. A nonoffensive brew, yet hoppy enough to offer a light, rewarding bite, Mirror Pond is suitable as a transition beer, probably after the Widmer Hefeweizen stage. No lemons in this one, folks. The Deschutes Brewery is in Bend, OR, a very beautiful part of the country.

I’ve written a few anti-war on Iraq articles, but haven’t really talked about my position. I am somewhat torn on this issue, as I can imagine circumstances in which I could believe that war is a good idea herenow.

My strongest argument against the war is that I really don’t trust the people who are pushing us straight into it. The antics of Bush and Cheney are well-documented (where they haven’t been able to suppress the records from their employers, the public). These men have been players in a world I cannot conceive. Try to imagine calling the Minister of Public Works and Services of Argentina and gently suggesting that you and your father, the President of the United States, feel that it would be a good idea to award a multi-million dollar pipeline deal to Enron.
