interesting conspiracy theory
Robert Anton Wilson seems to be a pretty sharp guy. Well-researched, he often sounds a bit wingnut, but there’s soundness to his ideas that I find intriguing. This is a pretty interesting article about the CIA and their involvement in our national politics, as well as the drug trade, the war on drugs, and the dismantling of the Bill of Rights.

too obvious to mention?
Where the heck is reality heading these days? I try to keep up with it, stay in touch, and all, but sometimes reality just slips right past me. I’m not talking virtual reality or internet reality, or even fictional reality. I mean space/time/television reality. The one inside the glowing box that determines what much of America talks about when outside their cubicles. The tagline, ‘latest reality dating show’ or somesuch appeared inside my peoplenonmover the other day (during Amistad) and then proceeded to show some bizarroworld in which a couple follows clues inside a secret ‘diary’ a la Die Hard 3 to find out how much they hate each other or want to have sex but can’t because they’re on national realityvision.

BoMa tosses out this funny onion-ish link about next steps in the war on terror and the obvious liberal Hollywood link. Guess I added that last bit myself.

Morgan Freeman
I watched the second half of Amistad the other evening. It was pretty good…though it may have been better or worse if I’d seen the whole thing. The thing that got me was Morgan Freeman in the film. Looking serious or nodding approval with some pretty horrible chops. I don’t know that he had a line the whole time I watched, they just stuck him in there every now and then, much like the robot in Logan’s Run.

I taste the winds of change
Yesterday I was thinking about PBR. It has long been my cheap beer of choice…the one that I’d get for soccer outings and bbq’s, or for when I was planning a long evening of drinking beer. You may notice one of my soccer teams is PBR FC. PBR brought us together, to a level that soccer alone wasn’t able. But I was thinking, and sensing, and thirsty. My sense told me change.

Do as I say not as I do
Orrin Hatch is a dangerous hypocrite. After declaring recently that copyright holders should be permitted to write code that will destroy the computer of someone improperly downloading copyrighted materials, he’s been caught using unlicensed copyrighted code on his virtual office (website). What a jerk. What he doesn’t understand is that it is actually difficult to unintentionally avoid using copyrighted material sometimes. Whether you’ve been hacked and some $cr!pt kiddi3 is downloading pr0n and disting photoshop from your box, or you happen to have a virtual in a server farm, or even if you’re just grabbing some software or tunes to try before you buy, some people may not even realize that they’re in violation.

McD’s good start
Pretty good news here, McDonalds is phasing out antibiotic-fed animals. Partially and loosely. But still, this is a good thing. They’re working with their suppliers to phase out some percentage of antibiotic-fed animals by the end of 2004. Livestock is fed antibiotics in their diets to enhance meat production. The problems that can arise from this are many. The most significant in my opinion is the Darwinian immunity we are encouraging through this practice.

Beaver baseball
Following the most hectic workday in quite some time, the boss took the whole company to a Beaver’s game. It was coincidence, really, that a pleasant team-building experience should follow on the heals of such an unpleasant one. I don’t care too much for baseball really. The best thing about a game is that the clanking bat gives a clear signal of when you should look and cheer or boo, leaving one to drink, eat, or chat the rest of the time.
