war marketing
A nice BBQ, grill, ribs, chicken, clinking glasses, friends, good times. The scene pans out slowly, some casual conversation, check the food. Panning further still, a door, mosquito netting, it’s all indoors. A cool friendly female voice asks, “West Nile virus keeping you indoors?” Buy Off. A nod to the Bush administration’s fear-driven marketing campaign for the war. This tactic is very powerful, subtle, and pervasive. Television exists to sell ads. Advertisers have a lot of power over television content. The media is known to no longer be the bastion of unbiased reporting it is rumored to have been at one time. FCC deregulations will assuredly loosen the ties to integrity even further. This sort of thing is a lot scarier than it seems. Now I can’t buy Off because I don’t want to support the propagation of fear. The captalization of hysteria.
