Summer goodness – beer fests, yoga, soccer

After hiking the other week, I found myself lacking skin on my heels, a condition which makes exercise with shoes less appealing. In an effort to keep on keepin on I found a new activity- yoga. Bright-eyed and barefoot I followed Ann to my first class, some Asstangle

or something. Halfway through sweat was just pouring off me as I struggle to go from downward dog to somehow unsuccessfully jump my feet in front of my hands. And we turned and I warriored and all that stuff. Then on Friday I tried ‘hot’ yoga. That was easier in some ways, but harder in others. The poses weren’t quite as linked together, but there was a lot more balancing, something I found that I’m terrible at. How could I now realize?

Beyond yoga, there’ve been a few really nice beer festivals. Waterfront Park hosted the annual giant Brewer’s Festival, which is fun as always (missed the last two years for soccer tournaments). I tasted a number of beers, of which my favorites were probably the Lucky Lab steam beer and the double dry-hopped pale, from Boundary Bay, I think. Lucky Lab has never topped my list of favorites, so yay for them.

Then yesterday, trotting about with N and my snappy new camera (Nikon D50…word) we happened upon the Bones and Brews event in the Pearl. I had a coupla good beers, some orange wheat that was very refreshing. I’ll need to track down the brewer, for some reason Pelican sticks in my mind but that doesn’t seem right. The BBQ was pretty good overall. Nothing exceptional, but it was definitely nice. I think it’d be great to see an amateur competition rolled in with the food booths.

On a similar note, congrats to The Church of Swinetology for a great showing at the BBQ competition in Montana. 3rd place in Brisket is pretty nice!
